Improving safety with CCTV and surveillance for New Haven Farm Home

New Haven Farm Home is a large, multi-site support organisation operating within the NDIS sector. They needed a CCTV system that would give them better visibility across their sites.

A key requirement of the solution was to strengthen safeguarding measures, helping the organisation meet its duty of support obligations and support safer environments for both residents and staff.

The main goal wasn’t just security for the sake of it. It was about being able to clearly understand what was happening across a spread out and busy environment.

The Challenge

Because of the size and layout of New Haven Farm Home’s site, there were areas where visibility was limited. Itwasn’t easy for New Haven Farm Home management to confirm staff presence in certain locations or get clarity when incidents were reported.

When incidents occurred, investigations often relied on individual accounts of what had happened, making it more difficult to establish a clear and unbiased picture of events. In a NDIS support environment, where safeguarding is paramount, having reliable evidence is essential for protecting both residents and staff.

The other challenge was making sure the CCTV didn’t feel too heavy-handed. New Haven Farm Home needed it to be introduced in a way that supported staff as well as residents, rather than creating unnecessary concern about being monitored.

The Solution

We designed and installed a full CCTV system across multiple buildings and sites.

In total, the system started with around 100 cameras, positioned across key internal and external areas including entrances, exits and shared spaces. Since the initial installation, the system has evolved with the number of cameras continuing to grow as new areas are identified where coverage is useful.

The setup included:

  • High-definition IP cameras across all sites
  • Central recording through a secure system
  • Remote access via mobile and desktop apps for authorised users
  • Strategic coverage of key access points and shared areas
  • Scalable infrastructure for room to expand as and when required

As New Haven Farm Home operated around the clock, careful planning was essential to ensure the installation could be completed safely and with minimal disruption. Sydney ICT worked closely with the team to coordinate access to each site, scheduling work around day-to-day operations so residents and staff could continue as normal throughout the project. Thanks to this collaborative approach and flexible site access, the installation was completed smoothly without any major challenges.

The Outcome

The brand-new CCTV system has significantly improved visibility across all sites, giving New Haven Farm Home a clearer understanding of day-to-day activity and greater confidence when reviewing incidents. Access to recorded footage has made it easier to establish what happened when issues are raised, helping investigations to be completed more efficiently and with greater accuracy.

The success of the initial deployment has led to continued expansion of the CCTV system over time. As New Haven Farm Home has grown and its requirements have evolved, Sydney ICT has worked alongside the organisation to extend surveillance coverage across additional areas. Today, the system has grown from the original installation to around 150 cameras, reflecting a long-term partnership built on trust and confidence.

“Sydney ICT invested time in learning our existing environment, presenting multiple solution pathways, and scaling the final approach to suit our organisation – with minimal direction required from us.”
